Shiatsu

60 minutes: $60

This is a quiet, restorative session done with the client fully clothed. I start with a basic Zen Shiatsu structure of full body massage, and incorporate elements of Thai massage, energy work, myofascial release and others, as may be appropriate.

Shiatsu is a Japanese form of massage therapy. The word Shiatsu comes from two Japanese words - "shi" (finger) and "atsu" (pressure). In addition to the direct stimulation of pressure points along the energy pathways of your body, gentle stretching techniques are applied over a wider area of the body to integrate the point work and encourage the flow of Chi (energy) throughout the body. Shiatsu is a meditative healing art that honors the body, mind and spirit.

Specialized Massage

60 minutes: $90

This is an interactive, intense session to address the residuals of injury, strains, chronic tension or pain.

Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure that the pressures do not create pain. Keep in mind that soreness is  common after the treatment, and drink plenty of water the rest of the day,  to help remove waste products that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.

Trigger Point work is devoted to the 'knots' that send referred pain, and typically are found to be very sensitive to a firm touch. This work softens and releases the points. It requires interactive communication and focus. While it can be uncomfortable as an experience, it results in greater ease of movement and unfolding relief in the next few day after the massage.

Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation [PNF] work uses active resistance, passive stretches, and breath work to retrain muscles and nerves. The patterns of tension and contraction are released and the muscles become able to contract and relax as they are designed to do.
